Diary 2002

January - Robert celebrated his 4th Birthday on Jan15, with a Party for his friends.  Richard and Tom dressed up as clowns.  (More pictures)

February - On 2nd February Helen turned 40.  She had a big bash for her friends.  As a treat she had a week-end at Cliveden. (See more)

March -
April - Helen developed pneumonia and had a collapsed lung.  Had bronchoscopy.  As a result gave up smoking.  Helen says she feels better for it, but has to go on a diet!
May - Bernice had a successful coronary artery by-pass graft operation at St George's Hospital. She is much better now - jet setting on exotic holidays.  Bernice is now waiting for a kidney transplant.
June - Helen, Rene and Robert had a week-end break in Rome.  Robert was fascinated by the Colosseum which was built 'a long long time ago'.
Margaret paid a short visit to the UK en route to a holiday in France with her friends. Picture shows Margaret and Helen in Stephen's kitchen.
July - Tony and Lulu celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary.  They had an Anniversary Lunch for family and friends and then went for a Mediterranean Cruise.  Congratulations!

August - Helen, Rene and Robert had a short break at the Lake District.  Stayed at a Hotel overlooking Lake Windermere.  Richard went on his Australian tour after completing his first year at medical school.  Went bungy jumping among other things that he did.
September - Robert started school at Dulwich Village Infant School.  On his first day, he had a sprig of spring onion, an Aug Pow and a book by a Nobel laureate.  Unfortunately was unable to get hold of a copy of the Chinese Three Character classic and forgot to add a sprig of celery.  Spring onion in Chinese is synonymous with intelligence and celery with diligence.

Spent a day at Rosa and Chris at Thurlestone after attending a wedding.  Was taken to the Penniston Fair.  Robert was fascinated by the horses, cows, chicken, etc.

Robert was the lead page-boy and was decked out in a morning suit - very smart.

Mei Ching went on her elective to spend a month at the Christian Medical College in Vellore, India.  She has since been to Malaysia, New Zealand and is spending Xmas in Sydney with Simon.

October - Helen, Rene, Robert, Jean and Eva went to Malaysia and then had a week in Beijing.  In Beijing Robert went into Chinese mode and spoke in Mandarin to any and every Chinese person he met. Went on the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Beijing Zoo and Aquarium.  Rene had scorpion and fried duck liver at Quanjude Peking Roast Duck Restaurant where the Chang's had the 101,566,198th duck!  Robert and Rene dressed up as Emperors at the Temple of Heaven.
Spent time with Mum and Dad in Petaling Jaya.  Robert was disappointed that Grand-pa's banana palm did not have any bananas.
Margaret helped to organise 90th Birthday celebrations for YeeYee (Mum's second sister).
Spent two days at Port Dickson - kindly organised by Harold Robert.
November - Mei Ching went sky-diving in New Zealand - crazy girl!  Jumped from 15,000 ft.
December - Veronica Chang got married to Ashby Robertson. Big celebration in Singapore.  Congratulations to Veronica and Ashby and her parents Justin and Soon Keng.
