Happy Chinese New Year 2002
Year of the Water Horse
Chinese New Year 2002 fell on February 12. The Chang Clan
gathered at Stephen's on the 17th to have the traditional Family Lunch.
Stephen true to tradition demonstrated his culinary skills to
the gastronomic delight of everyone - the piece de resistance was a whole
roast pig. The skin was crispy and the meat succulent. This was
followed by braised shitake mushrooms, fried and braised belly of pork with
cloud ears - a clan dish, delicately roasted beef fillet, pak choi, braised
duck, chicken and a mixed pickle and New Year noodles and steamed char sui pau.
All these were prepared in his new kitchen.
When everyone were stuffed to their eyeballs, a delicious
chocolate cake brought by Cecilia was wheeled out. Almost everyone reached
the fourth degree of Chang fullness (1-satisfied, 2-stuffed, 3-cannot breathe,
4-in pain).
Present were Rosa and Chris, Mike and Yen and Mike's mum
Barbara, Tony, Lulu, Auntie Dolly, Christopher and Joanna, René, Helen, Mei,
Richard and Robert, Cecilia and Phil. Jerrica and her partner and several other
friends of Bernice including Angela and Gail. Hua was absent skiing in
Spain.
