I have a slightly different version about GP's concubine.
Apparently, Grand-pa had taken a fancy to a woman living nearby and was heaping attention upon her. Grand-ma was more concerned by the fact that this woman's man was a gangster and was at the time a guest at her Majesty's prison. She was worried that if this man were to hear about Grand-pa's attention towards his woman, he would call upon his mates to do in Grand-pa. Being very practical and knowing that Grand-pa's biological needs had to be met, she went off and found the concubine for Grand-pa. In Chinese custom, Grand-ma would still be the first lady of the household and if there were children from the relationship, they would have to acknowledge Grand-ma as their mother!
It has been said that while Uncle Peter refused to have anything to do with the woman, my father, Paul maintained a cordial relationship with her.
The rest of the story I concur.
