Although he may not have known or believed it when he was young, I have always thought that cock brother was special to father and much loved (and worried about) by him, an undeniable but perhaps quite incidental event being that Step Hen was born father's first son, I guess more for grandfather's sake.

Some intervening disasters (from whose viewpoint?)inevitably passed in the years between the first auspicious event and subsequent victorious years, cock brother's Chinese name meaning victory. He brought home bloody red marks from remarkable schools that he was forced to attend, other people's vegetables from surrounding farms to put on the table for our daily bread, adventures on the high seas (actually only the roads of Ipoh)as a swashbuckling boocharner(buccaneer)whipping around in father's Morris Cowley.

Of course, brave pirates are brought in chains and shackles before God represented on earth by fathers. Punishment was sure, if not always swift, but the latter by no means can be credited to the adventurer's adroitness for strangely he had little of this in his feet despite being a Step Hen.

And it came to pass that the christened Step Hen went about his ways as little Black Sheep, with his shepherd at wits' end, whilst so worrying the rest of his large flock until they shuddered and duddered in absolute wonder and consternation.

But it had also come to pass that upon the day that the shepherd's glory was let loose on this earth, I have heard many times from mother the wondrous tale that Peter the Rock was dealt three hands of Sup Sam Yew in mahjong by God Almighty.
